Making a framed scroll saw portrait for Mother’s Day.
I made a portrait of our 20 month old son. He gave it to his mother on Mother’s Day. For the portrait itself I used beech plywood and I stained another sheet black as background. For the frame I used laminated beech and stained it dark brown.
First I transfered the scroll saw pattern which was printed with a laser printer to the beech plywood using acetone. Some areas were not that clear so I had to correct them by hand with a pencil.
A black stained sheet of plywood was great for the background.
After drilling many holes, I sawed the portrait with my scroll saw.
I used a board of laminated wood to create a beveled frame.
To give it a little more contrast I stained the frame to dark brown.
After a layer of spray laquer an a light wet sanding with 1000 grid I applied another very light coat and let it dry.
I used a washer to create a mount for the portrait.
In the end I am very happy how it turned out. And my girlfriend was happy too.
